Chairman of Care Committee’s report 2007 This is my first report and I must immediately acknowledge the contribution which W. Bro. Bill Divall has made to this committee, firstly as a committee member, then as Secretary & finally as Chairman. It is a hard act to follow, which I have done with some trepidation. Bill as always has been a tremendous support in the background since I have taken over as Chairman and I want to thank him not only for his work defining many changes which we had to make during his tenure of office, but also with his continuing friendly ear off which to bounce ideas. I also have to report with great regret that three of our committee members have had to resign owing to ill health, Namely W. Bro. Peter Betty, W. Bro. Wilf Horton and W. Bro. Niall Corbett. I have written to them thanking them for their dedication and hard work, but now is the time to publicly acknowledge their contribution. As part of our continual review process, circumstances have prompted a change in the way which we support Almoners and we have introduced, with the Executives’ agreement, another dimension of operation. In addition to being available as a friendly ear for advice and support, we will as from the new season, be providing updates for the executive prior to Lodge visits. We will give the Lodge Almoner a call so that the visiting officer can be advised of any issues which relate to the health of the Lodge members, which we will report back to the visiting officer. At the same time we have reassigned Lodge responsibilities and all Lodges will be allocated to one of the four of us. This will be published in the 2007 Year Book. At this point I must pay tribute to the remaining members of the Committee, W. Bro Gavin O’Sullivan our secretary, W. Bro. Remo Hide and W. Bro. Carl Nixon, who have all been a great support since I have assumed responsibility. Please remember we are here to help not to interfere. Sometimes we have more up to date information about how brethren can be supported in time of trouble, so why not give your committee member a call.
