It was indeed a pleasant
afternoon at the Imperial Hotel, for the Provincial Grand Officers Mess.
Those members who attended, soon congregated in the bar on the 1st
floor of the hotel from about 12pm to have a refreshment drink......or
two!!, I soon recognised familiar faces, and I did not feel
lost among the many distinguished members attending.
At 12.30pm prompt
with everyone seated, the Mess Chairman W Bro Bob Stoakes welcomed
everyone, and gave his opening address, after which he immediately handed over to our "Speaker"
W Bro Ralph
Wheeler, of the "Mark Token Collectors Club". W
Bro Ralph gave a very fascinating talk on the "Mark Token" and the
visitors could not fail to be interested in the many different Tokens that
are in existence. W Bro Ralph made reference to the symbols
and of those that are in our Ritual Book, and also to some of the
different ideas of producing a Brothers token on his Advancement.
One of the ideas, in trying to make a Mark that is not too difficult for
the candidate to choose and remember. As we all know, sometimes it
is hard to remember our own Mark without making reference to our own Mark
Certificate. The talk was superbly delivered, and easy to
understand with large chart drawings to enable to brethren to see the full
descriptions on the front and obverse of a Mark Token, with W Bro Ralph
giving a detailed explanation of the Mark Token. W Bro Ralph
informed the Brethren that he had brought along with him some samples of
different Tokens, if any member wished to view after the meeting had
finished. In addition he informed the Brethren that they could
purchase a "starter kit" for those interested in taking up collecting
"Mark Tokens". The website is www.marktokens.co.uk
The Brethren warmly
applauded W Bro Ralph Wheeler at the conclusion of the talk.
On the Agenda for the
Mess was a Presentation of a Certificate to W Bro Warwick Pizer, who
retired as Treasurer of the "Mess". W Bro Warwick was presented with
his certificate by the PGM to much applause, and W Bro Pizer responded
with deep gratitude and thanks for the support he had received during his
office as Treasurer of the Provincial Grand Officers Mess.
The PGM was also
pleased to announce the new Treasurer for the Mess W Bro Wilfrid Horton,
of Southwark Lodge No.22.

There was a break for
Lunch, along with a Raffle, and everyone was pleased to participate and
purchase raffle tickets while enjoying an excellent Lunch, consisting of a
choice of hot dishes with rice, or a cold meat and salad buffet,
followed by a sweet of either profiteroles or fruit salad.
