The London District Grand Council

Background

From the time of their inception, all Private Councils were originally governed directly by the Grand Council, i.e. administered by the Grand Recorder and his office.

In 1992, Grand Council decided to create Divisions to cover the whole of England and Wales, each Division to be governed by a Divisional Grand Inspector and administered by a Divisional Recorder. On Monday 14th September 1992, the London Division was constituted and the first Divisional Grand Inspector (R. Ill. Comp. David Ivor Williams) was installed. The D.G.I. appointed, as first Divisional Recorder, Ill. Comp. Brian Anthony Vickers. There was no provision under the Constitution for any other Divisional Officers. At the time of its inception, the London Division comprised nine councils.

The London Division remained in existence until 15th April 1997, when Grand Council determined to form District Grand Councils as from that date, each to be governed by a District Grand Master (D.G.M.), a Deputy District Grand Master (Dep. D.G.M.), a District Grand Principal Conductor of the Work (D.G.P.C.W.) and a full team of appointed Officers. Therefore, as from the date, the Divisional Grand Inspector of London became the District Grand Master.

The District Grand Council

On Wednesday 4th June 1997, the inaugural meeting of the District Grand Council of London was held and the D.G.M appointed his Officers. The first Deputy District Grand Master was Ill. Comp. Brian Anthony Vickers and the first District Grand Principal Conductor of the Work was Ill. Comp. Jim Daniel.

On 13th June 2007, R.Ill. Companion David Ivor Williams, having retired as District Grand Master after a ten year reign, V.Ill.Companion Brian Anthony Vickers was installed as District Grand Master for a period of five years from that date.

At the annual meting held on 11th June 2008 Ill.Companion Gordon Alexander Trew was installed as Deputy D.G.M. and Ill.Comp. Trevor Peter Dutt was installed as District Grand Principal Conductor of the Work.
