There was a gathering of distinguished Brethren at Mark Masons Hall on the 19th January 2005 to Consecrate a new Council in London. Penge Council No. 256, which will in future meet at the South East Masonic Hall, 3 Avenue Road, Penge, London SE20 7RX. They will meet twice a year on the Second Tuesday in February and July. This is the first new Council to be consecrated in London for almost 20 years, the last being St. James's Council No: 143 founded in November 1985. The Consecrating Officers was the M.Ill. Grand Master Col. Robert Keith Hind, assisted by the Deputy Grand Master R.Ill. Comp. Keith Carmichael, with R.Ill. Comp. Charles Woodward, District Grand Master for Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, acting as Grand P.C.W. The Installing Officers being the Right Illustrious District Grand Master, David Ivor Williams. Two members of the District also formed part of the Consecrating Team. Ill. Comp. Dr. John Morgan Richards acting as Grand Captain of the Guard and Ill. Comp. Peter Jones, acting as Grand Standard Bearer. The meeting was well supported by the District with all Councils being represented. The founding Recorder and the driving force in setting up the new Council was Ill. Comp. Graham Peacock and the first Master Ill. Comp. Dennis Wheeler. The rest of the founders being V.Ill. Comp. Brian Vickers, Ill. Companions Paul Butler, Carl Nixon, Eric Head and James Edwards, and Companions Mark Walton, Stanley Smith, Stanley Brown, Huw Shooter, Oluwie Richards, Edward Blyden, Andrew Peto and William Cruttenden. The District had the support of three visiting District Grand Masters:-
There were 90 Brethren in the Temple, and 60 of the Brethren stayed to dine and Ill. Companion Peter Evans was on hand to take photographs of the Brethren enjoying the festive Board.
